The timing of this year’s Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition (CWCBExpo) in Boston couldn’t be better. As questions about the safety and regulation of vaping mount, the relevance of the subject matter presented at the Boston CWCBExpo is becoming increasingly evident. Scheduled for October 24-26 at the Hynes Convention Center, CWCBExpo will include a panel discussion titled ‘Vaping Crisis as Health Opportunity’, as well as other pertinent presentations and discussions designed to provide insight on industry regulations and health concerns.
Moderating the vaping panel discussion will be Seth Adler, an experienced host, moderator, producer and unlicensed anthropologist. He will be joined by the following panel experts:
- Jordan Tishler, MD, is president of the Association of Cannabis Specialists, an instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, president and CMO at InhaleMD and a recognized cannabis specialist;
- Jennifer Flanagan is commissioner of the Cannabis Control Commission for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a former state senator; and
- Andrew Kline is director of public policy at the National Cannabis Industry Association, former president of the National Association of Cannabis Businesses and special counsel for the Federal Communications Commission’s Enforcement Bureau.
Panel members will discuss the ever-changing landscape of the vaping space, including talking about what has been done, what is currently being done and what needs to be done moving forward to solve the vaping issue. The panel will also focus on utilizing the vaping crisis as an opportunity to ensure safety in the industry’s long run.
The timely panel discussion comes on the heels of vaping manufacturers and retailers joining forces to call on Congress to create meaningful reform (http://nnw.fm/bs2X4). A group of more than 600 independently owned vaping businesses released a white paper earlier this month formally responding to CDC claims that link e-cigarettes to recent illnesses and deaths. The paper provided valuable insight into the situation, as well as outlining specific solutions aimed at reducing the growing number of youths who are vaping.
In addition to the panel discussion focusing exclusively on vaping, multiple presentations will comprehensively examine federal and state regulations, including the following:
- ‘How MMJ Companies Can Prepare for FDA/Government Regulation and Oversight – What Pharma Taught Us’;
- ‘Know Before You Grow: Federal and State Laws for Selling Hemp and CBD Products’;
- ‘Business and Law of Marijuana’; and
- ‘FDA and Cannabis: Striking the Balance Between Protecting the Public Health and Consumer Demand’.
The conference will also include a keynote address by Keith Saunders, Ph.D., a sociologist and board member at the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. During his address, Saunders will take a look at how, starting with Proposition 215 in 1996, the nation has seen a social movement toward legalizing cannabis. Currently, 46 of the 50 states and a handful of territories have cannabis policies directly in violation of the federal Controlled Substances Act. Saunders will talk about the unique scenario where criminal prohibition poses a barrier that legal medicinal and adult-use policies are trying to overcome.
