The Jboy Show with Barstool Mintzy

  • Mintzy’s career path to Barstool Sports
  • Mintzy’s craziest poker story, day 3 of the World Series main event in 2011
  • Discuss SEC projections, Mac Jones, and Bo Nix

Barstool Mintzy joined The Jboy Show on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, to discuss his career, poker, and football. The show started off with Mintzy sharing his journey from college and online poker to Barstool Sports.

In college, Mintzy won an online poker tournament in 2006, which opened up opportunities to leave school early. In 2009 he moved to New Orleans and was working as a professional poker player, traveling around the country and living beyond his means. In 2014 a friend called and challenged Mintzy to join him in finishing school at Ole Miss.

After finishing school in 2016 with his finance degree, Mintzy began his first radio host job, “Mixing up with Mintz.” When the show was cut in early 2020, he accepted a job offer with ESPN Baton Rouge, but before it could be finalized COVID-19 shut the world down. The next few months, Mintzy focused on his YouTube channel and playing more online poker.

On October 3 Mintzy was watching Ole Miss and Kentucky. Ole Miss scores, and Mintzy goes nuts. His digital producer recorded and tweets out his reaction. That video quickly led to a job offer from Barstool Sports.

Jake Crain then asked Mintzy to share his craziest poker memory. Day 3 of the World Series main event 2011 Mintzy had the hand of his career. “Patrick Antonius sits down on my right, top 5 player in the world, day 3 of the main event. He’s got so many chips I can’t even see his ziplock bag…dude starts raising every single hand. At first, I’m like I really don’t want to mess with this guy…we start battling, we play four hands against each other and we each win two… He makes it 7200, I make it 19500 with two queens. It gets back to him and he makes it 63K…” To hear the rest of the story, go to https://thejboyshow.com/episode/the-jboy-show-w-barstool-mintzy/.

The conversation moves to football and SEC projections. Ole Miss fans are excited right now, “enjoying some random football,” said Mintzy, who is looking forward to the Egg Bowl.

It’s looking like it will be Alabama and Florida in Atlanta. Alabama has been showing stronger defense but Florida has been scoring high points against strong defensive teams all season. Turnovers might determine this game. But Alabama’s Mac Jones isn’t missing a beat. He’s great in the pocket, not super fast but sneaky fast. His reaction skills are great and he always keeps his eyes down the field.

Auburn started the season rocky but won big against LSU. While Mintzy never wants to count Auburn out in the Iron Bowl, and sees them fighting hard, he would be surprised if they won. Auburn’s Bo Nix is still young as a sophomore and has a ton of experience, but he has made many poor decisions on the field. At home, he looks excellent, but on the road, Nix appears to struggle.
